Bricklaying Demo, Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 3 Iowa  ]  .25 AIA/HSW Credit

The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 3 Iowa will guide attendees through the fundamentals of bricklaying. This interactive demonstration provides valuable insight into the craftsmanship, construction methods, and quality standards behind masonry systems.

Proper Techniques for Striking a Masonry Wall, Marshalltown Company|.5 AIA/HSW Credit

During this hands-on nano session, architects will discover how the choice of tools and striking techniques directly impacts a building's water shedding ability, structural longevity, and visual texture.

8:45 - 9:00am
The Basics of Movement Joints, Brickworks Supply Center|.25 AIA/HSW Credit

This presentation will focus on the location, spacing and detailing of movement joints in brick to allow for movement and prevent cracking.

9:00 - 9:15am
Pre-Insulated Masonry, TCC Materials | .25 AIA/HSW Credit*
This session will address the energy efficiency of pre-insulated masonry wall systems and energy code compliance of using such systems.

9:15 - 9:30am
Thin Masonry Veneer Systems, Spec Mix | .25 AIA/HSW Credit
This program will demonstrate proper thin veneer masonry. Installation with multiple thin bedding products. Will also go over thin veneer building codes.

9:30 - 9:45am
The Basics of Concrete Masonry, King’s Material & Midland Concrete Products | .25 AIA/HSW credit*
This nano-session will walk attendees through the basic properties of concrete masonry units, structural and nonstructural applications, key design considerations and resources for properly designing with concrete masonry.

9:45 - 10:00am
New Rules for Construction Clean Down, ProSoCo | .25 AIA/HSW credit*
An overview of how masonry exteriors have changed and the challenges and procedures involved in cleaning them correctly including the seven “new” rules for new masonry construction clean down.
