Student Field Days
Architectural Student Field Day - Every October, the Masonry Institute of Iowa holds Student Field Days. This event is designed to give architectural students a taste of designing and building with masonry. The students get to design a project in class, and during the Student Field Day, they tour a finished project, a project in process, a block plant, and finally a brick plant. At the brick plant, they get to implement their designs
Engineering Student Field Day - ISU Construction Engineering students will participate in the hands-on experience of actually building a masonry structure in the parking lot by the Town Engineering Building. Brad Perkins, P.E., Lecturer, ISU, has been instrumental in getting this event scheduled each year. This event allows the students to create masonry structures or mini Campaniles and experience masonry hands on. The students leave this event with a great appreciation and excitement for Masonry.
UNI Construction Management Student Field - Each fall, the UNI students spend the day with masonry by visiting a block plant, a jobsite and a few hours laying brick. The students are divided into teams and host a friendly competition building something out of brick, block and stone. the projects are judged, the winning teams awarded sweatshirts and their name placed on a plaque which will be displayed at the school.
